I stumbled upon this little widget when I went to a self care event at a little shop in the West Loop (of Chicago) called Scratch Goods.  We shared daily self care rituals, and one of them they introduced was jade rolling.  I knew right away after holding one in my hand and rolling it on my face, I had to purchase one immediately!  So fast forward, I pretty much use it every day, and it’s been one of my favorite daily rituals.  

The other day, I posted an inta-story and actually had a ton of questions about my jade roller.  So, I wanted to share a little more for anybody who was curious or looking into this simple gadget. 

“WHAT IS IT?!”

IT’S A JADE ROLLER!  It’s not some new technology that has recently been discovered, but rather an ancient classic, said to be used by Chinese empresses since the 17th century.  Most have two sides, with one large jade stone on one side, and a smaller stone on the opposite side.  It resembles a paint roller and you simply use either side and roll it on your face.

WHAT DOES IT DO?!

  1. Improves skin elasticity/minimizing the look of fine lines

  2. Decreases puffiness and under-eye circles

  3. Boosts blood circulation

  4. Stimulates lymphatic drainage

  5. Helps skin better absorb products

HOW?!

Sometimes when excess fluid stays in one place it causes swelling, thus, the morning puffiness.  The jade roller acts as a mini massage for your face and allows fluid to drain into the proper channels.  Therefore, minimizing puffiness where drainage was settling in the face.  

TIP

And if you keep your jade roller cold in the freezer or fridge, it helps constrict blood vessels in the face to minimize swelling too!

DOES IT REALLY WORK?

Since using my jade roller, I believe that I’ve seen changes, though, it’s not the fountain of youth.  I feel as though I can tell the difference if I skip one day.  I keep mine in the refrigerator, and I use it in the morning.  The cooling sensation wakes me up and makes me look awake too.  I feel it helps mostly with the puffiness.  I do have some wrinkles on my forehead, that haven’t disappeared, but it has improved some.  Though, not a miracle worker, it has helped with my complexion.  

HOW TO USE IT.

1.  I start at the center of my chin using the larger side and work it along my jawline up to my ear and then down my neck.

2.  I go from the center of my lips, grazing right underneath my cheekbones, up to my ear.

3.  Then I start at the side of nose along my cheekbones up to my temples.

4.  With the smaller side, I gently trace underneath my eyes and up.

5.  I switch back to the large side and roll my eye brow bone and then my forehead.

 

I do these steps each about 3-4 times and repeat on the opposite side of the face.
